Aukland day seven Thursday 13/10/11

Early departure again - sort of - no showers as they were uninviting and 50 cents a go! Gentle drive down the coast stopping to investigate hot water beach but we were 3 hours too early to try it out. Amused by "Auntie Dawn's" bed and breakfast sign. Onwards for a morning coffee in Tairua. Not actually raining but looking likely. More driving over wiggly hilly roads back to to Thames and then through rain along the straight level road across the plain. Arrived in Miranda and very impressed with the holiday park, and even the sun shines for a while but by the time we begin our lunch the rain returns. Plans for a laze in the thermal pool on hold til it stops. Rain howers come and go so we head to the pool during one break. Really nice pool very warm, incoming water too hot to touch - all natural mineral sprong water. Spent a long time there then back for dinner - apricot chicken mix - just add apricots chicken and onions! Made do with pineapple chunks from the store but still very acceptable. Carol had her arm twisted to buy a charity calendar of hunky firemen as well as the pineapple. Went next door to the public pool to get a takeaway apple pie for desert but out of luck so made do with a sticky date pud at reduced price, chopped in half and put in two packages, probably twice as much icecream too as they didn't like to disappoint anyone. Rugby shirt much admired! Another laze in the pool - adults only so kept the mini rugby teams out - then off to bed for a clear moonlit but very cold night. Identified the bright star just above the moon as  Jupiter
