Our hosts kindly indulged our quirk of boiled eggs on sundays! Soon after Dave departed to Sydney and Ann became our tour guide taking us north again towards Whangerei. First stop was the honey centre where we tasted many varied honey concoctions and bought anything remotely likely to help my cough. Onwards to Dragonfly cafe which was absolutely packed though looked nothing from the road. Morning coffee, this time without cakes and a look round the art work then it was off again to a pottery. Very busy as there was a sale on and it's Labour weekend. Vibrant colour glazes on large terracotta pottery. Annie indulged in a large blue pot and we bought a seahorse she had her eye on as a present. Lunch stop now imminent and ascension vinyard seemed appropriate. Excellent lunch of belly of pork, steak and smoked mushrooms with cheese accompanied by some nice rose wine. Annie actually bought a couple of bottles of the rose as it was so drinkable. Heading back homewards we dived off to the coast looking for gulls island but missed it and found ourselves in Snells beach. Retraced our steps and then moved on to a coastal reserve surrounding Cawdrey house. All very well looked after. Watched baby birds for a while then poked our noses to the windows of the house as it had just closed. The attendant lady was quite chatty and confirmed that the trees with no leaves and bright red "flowers" were a form of flame tree probably from South Africa. Nearer to home we went down to the area where there was a happening in preparaltion for watching the cup final. Very crowded as the weather was superb. Decided on a light meal and watching the match at home anyway so dropped in to the supermarket for a few more items then settled down for the evening. Somewhat disappointing match, ABs didn't play their best and the French managed to do quite well, infact had the better game but failed to break down the ABs defence and lost by 8 -9. Much happiness in the land! Watched the fireworks over Eden Park in the distance from the balcony at Gulf Harbour.
