Rotorua day five Wednesday 19/10/11

Duck tour booked for this afternoon otherwise not sure what to do in the rain! After breakfast we pottered into Rotorua ( lake number two as we found out later) and had a look in the isite for inspiration. A walk round the local park seemed a good idea as it wasn't actually raining but by the time we got to the edge of the park it looked likely to so we backtracked and looked for an early lunch - the Pig and Whistle was the first establishment we found so in again and this time redeemed our free drink vouchers, followed my nachos and soup of the day (sweet potato and bacon) plus a side order of chips for some unknown reason, especialy as we had seen the size of portion a couple of days before. Good slimming world intentions are slipping. Torrential rain during lunch which cleared up in time to save us from having to order a desert. Back to the park and had an amazing stroll past an assortment of geothermal happenings just bubbling up through the ground. In a couple of places it looked like new events had just burst through the footpath with a very hot spring ready to trip you up, though most of the vents were fenced off for safety.  The walk brought us back to the isite just as the heavens opened again and we had to take refuge in the cafe to wait for our duck tour. In the event our tour was cancelled and we were consolidated into a shorter trip which, given the weather, was no bad thing. Quite an interesting experience and the commentary quite amusing so all in all a good little trip even though it poured down for most of it and it was pretty cold too. Hopped off the duck with our obligatory duck quackers and yet again the rain came down and we got soaked going to the van. Rained all the way home and as we were having our tea it came on to rain even more heavily..... it's going to be fine and sunny tomorrow they say. Shame its so wet and cold, not inviting to do some of the fun aquatic things on offer, don't feel like getting wet and cold on a boat.
